Shopping in Nimes

No summer holiday or short break would be complete without a shopping trip and Nimes is no differant. So if you like shopping then head to the centre of Nimes and rue du Général-Perrier, rue des Marchands, rue du Chapître and the pedestrian rue de l'Aspic and rue de la Madeleine.

Every Sunday a flea market opens from 8am to approximately 1pm in the parking lot of the Stade des Costières. This is the site of most of the town's football matches and lays adjacent to the southern edge of the boulevard périphérique that circles Nîmes.

To soothe your sweet tooth you must make sure that you visit one of the many pastry shops in town and ask for the regional almond-based cookies, which are called croquants villaret and caladons. They are great forgiving that extra burst of energy or for taking home as souvenirs.

One of the best purchases that you can make is a santon. These figurines are sculpted into characters from Provençal country life and can be collected to create a unique country-French nativity scene. For a selection of santons in various sizes, visit the Boutique Provençale, 10 place de la Maison Carré .
